Russell’s bail can expedite clearing Evaly debts, says Shamima

The release of Evaly’s former chief executive officer Mohammad Russell can speed up the process of clearing the company’s debts, said Shamima Nasrin, the recently placed director of the e-commerce platform.

Shamima, also a co-founder of Evaly, held a virtual press conference on Thursday afternoon where she formally presented a business plan for the re-launching of the infamous e-commerce platform under her leadership.

On September 20, the High Court ordered the inclusion of Shamima Nasreen on the new board of directors of Evaly.

Nasrin said Evaly clients’ money is stuck due to server complications and she is not able to tell any specific date when it will be able to pay the client’s debts.

“Due to the complexity of our servers, customers’ money is stuck. Contacting Amazon to resolve server issues. It would have been easier if our former MD Russell had stayed out. Russell needs to talk directly with Amazon to open the server. Because Russell has done all our activities with Amazon. So it can be done easily if he is bailed,” Shamima said.

Therefore, she wants Russel’s bail under any condition so that the company can return the client’s money, she added.

Shamima asked all to trust Evaly’s new management as it has two independent directors appointed by the High Court.

Shamima Nasrin said that she will start a new campaign on October 15. “If we can start business then we can move forward. We have decided to sell products at a profit from day one.”

The co-founder of Evaly said it will be possible to pay off the debt if they can do business continuously for one year.

Regarding any new investment, Nasrin said, “Many investors contacted us after our arrest. Now if we start business again then new investors will come”.

In a written speech at the virtual press conference, Shamima Nasrin said that if buyers and sellers regular trade in Evaly, it will be very easy to bring domestic and foreign investment, she said.

Earlier, on September 15, 2021, a customer filed a case against Evaly accusing Russell and his wife Shamima of scamming consumers and embezzling money.

The couple was arrested on a day later by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) during a raid at their Mohammadpur residence in Dhaka.
