Eid-e-Miladunnabi, the day of birth and demise of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SM), will be observed in the country on October 9 as the moon of Rabiul Awal was not sighted in Bangladesh sky on Monday.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee held at the Islamic Foundation's Baitul Mukarram office with Munim Hassan, additional secretary, Ministry of Religious Affairs in the chair, said an Islamic Foundation press release.

Md Mushfikur Rahman, director general of Islamic Foundation, Md Nazrul Islam, joint secretary of Information and Broadcasting Ministry, among others, were present at the meeting.

On this day in 570, the 12th of Rabiul Awal of the Hijri calendar, Muhammad (pbuh) was born in Makkah of Saudi Arabia with divine blessings and messages of peace for mankind.

He also passed away on the same day.
