Bangladesh will not step into Myanmar’s provocation of trap, acting Foreign Secretary Rear Admiral (retd) Md Khorshed Alam tells diplomats on Tuesday.

“Myanmar is destroying the regional harmony deliberately to hinder the Rohingya repatriation process. Despite this, we will not step into its provocation or traps,” Khorshed Alam, told reporters.

He was talking to the reporters after a meeting held with diplomats stationed in Dhaka at State Guesthouse Padma, to convey Bangladesh’s concerns over the situation prevailing in Bangladesh-Myanmar bordering areas.

During the meeting, Khorshed Alam conveyed Bangladesh’s concerns over possible instability in the region to the diplomats and briefed them about the current situation in the bordering areas.

The diplomats have appreciated Bangladesh’s position of not stepping into Myanmar’s traps for the sake of regional peace. The diplomats also assured Bangladesh of conveying the matter to their respective authorities.

Meanwhile, the Myanmar army said that Arakan Army and terrorist group ARSA are responsible for mortar shells landing on Bangladesh soil.

Responding to a query in this regard, the acting foreign secretary said Myanmar always makes such seminal claims.

“We sought their (diplomats) help so that Myanmar can’t create instability in the region,” he said.

No diplomat representing Myanmar was at the briefing.

Director General (South East Asia wing) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Md Najmul Huda was also present.
