Detective Branch (DB) of Police will continue its ongoing crackdown against the individuals engaged in manufacturing fake counterfeit US dollars and hoarding the currency illegally amid the global crisis.

Mohammad Harun Or Rashid, DB Chief of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) came up with the determination while addressing a media briefing in Dhaka on Thursday.

As a part of the ongoing drive against the illegal dollar hoarders, the intelligence forces will continue their drives elsewhere to control the hike in the price of the US dollars that has already created an artificial crisis in the open market, he said.

Harun, also an additional commissioner (investigation) of the DMP, said they are collecting information by using their intelligence regarding the dollar hoarders.

He said that the Bangladesh Bank has already taken action to check the rise of the dollar price in the market.

To make its efforts a success, a total of 10 teams of the central bank, in the presence of the members of the National Security Intelligence Agency, visited at least 20 money exchangers in Gulshan, Paltan and Motijheel areas on Wednesday and gathered information relating to the dollar transactions.

On July 26, the exchange rate of the US dollar against the taka hit a record of Tk 112 in the market due to a huge demand for the currency in recent times.
