The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved a proposal in principle for procuring 6.30 lakh tonnes of urea fertiliser from Muntajat, Qatar to meet the country’s local demand.

The approval came from the 14th meeting of the CCEA this year held on Wednesday virtually with Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in the chair.

While briefing reporters after the meeting, Cabinet Division Additional Secretary Md Zillur Rahman Chowdhury said Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) under the Ministry of Industries would procure the urea fertilizer from Qatar Chemical and Petrochemical Marketing and Distribution Company, Muntajat, Qatar under government-to-government agreement for the fiscal year 2022-23.

The fertiliser will be brought in phases, said the government official.
