Admitting some misuse and abuses during the implementation of the Digital Security Act (DSA), Law Minister Anisul Huq said the government will bring amendments to the act, if necessary.

“This law has been abused in some cases before. The government will change it, if necessary, to ensure proper implementation of the law,” said the minister.

He made the observations while responding to reporters at a programme organised by the Bangladesh Secretariat Reporters Forum (BSRF) at the secretariat on Tuesday.

Mentioning that many people are filing unnecessary cases under this law, he said, “We have taken measures so that no one is arrested immediately after filing a case under this law. As a result, arrests are not being made everywhere now.”

The law minister also said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government will not pass any law that hinders independent journalism.

“The issue of freedom of media was not included in the constitution of many democratic countries across the world, which Bangabandhu had inserted in the constitution of Bangladesh. So, the present government will not do anything against independent journalism,” he added.

He also mentioned that the media workers act has been enacted for the benefit of journalists.

BSRF President Tapon Biswash presided over the programme, while its secretary Masudul Haque anchored it.
