President, PM mourn death of journalist Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury

President Abdul Hamid on Thursday expressed deep shock at the death of eminent journalist and writer Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury.

In a condolence message, the President said that Bangladesh has lost a pioneer who was progressive, creative and believed in the spirit of the Liberation War.

His immortal song on language movement gave immense courage and inspiration to the Bengali nation during the Liberation War.

The President also prayed for the departed soul of Gaffar Chowdhury and conveyed his deepest condolences to his bereaved family.

In a separate message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of veteran journalist, columnist, poet and writer Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury.

She said Chowdhury won hearts of Bangalees by writing the celebrated Ekushey song "Amar Bhaier Rokte Rangano Ekushey February".

The premier prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.

Chowdhury breathed his last at a London hospital this morning (Thursday morning).

In a condolence message Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen expressed deep shock at the death of the eminent journalist and columnist and said that Gaffar Chowdhury’s contribution to the journalism of Bangladesh was remarkable.

He prayed for the salvation of the departed soul of late Gaffar Chowdhury and conveyed his deepest condolences to the bereaved family members.

Bangladesh cabinet members, journalists, leaders of socio-cultural organisations and leaders of different political parties expressed their grave shock at the death and sought eternal peace to the departed soul.

They also conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family members.
