Bangladesh is not facing any fertiliser crisis induced by the Russia-Ukraine war as it sources from other countries as well, Finance Minister AHM Mostafa Kamal has said.

The minister said this after presiding over a virtual meeting of the cabinet committee on public purchase on Wednesday.

At the meeting, the committee approved two separate proposals for the procurement of 70,000 tonnes of fertiliser from Morocco.

The proposals came from Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC).

After the meeting, the minister said, “We are importing from Morocco and the Russia-Ukraine hasn’t caused any fertiliser crisis in Bangladesh.”

As per two separate proposals, the BADC under the ministry of Agriculture will import 30,000 tonnes of bulk TSP fertiliser from OCP.SA of Morocco at a cost of Tk 257.11 crore.

In the other proposal, 40,000 tonnes of DAP fertiliser will be procured from the same company at a cost of Tk 398.99 crore.
