China to ship another 6 lakh doses of Covid vaccine to Bangladesh

China is going to ship another batch of 6 lakh doses of Covid-19 vaccines to Bangladesh, official said.

Minister Counselor and DCM at Chinese Embassy in Dhaka Hualong Yan in facebook post on Friday night said Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi had a phone conversation with his counterpart AK Abdul Momen to discuss the the matter.

“China will be always with our Bangladeshi friends rain or shine,” Yan wrote.

Earlier on May 12, a batch of five lakh doses of China's Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccine arrived Bangladesh.

Chinese Ambassador Li Jiming handed over the vaccines to Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen and Health Minister Zahid Maleque at State Guest House Padma.

On Wednesday, the government approved a proposal in principle to procure the Covid-19 vaccine from Sinopharm, a Chinese state-owned enterprise, under the direct procurement method (DPM) in order to meet the country’s growing demand.

The approval came from this year’s 15th meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs held virtually, with Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in the chair.
