Bangladesh Association of Psychiatrists (BAP) declared a two-day work abstention from today across the country protesting the arrest of National Institute of Mental Health and Hospital’s registrar in connection with the death of senior ASP Anisul Karim.

In an emergency meeting this noon, the BAP decided that all the psychiatrists would stay away from their private and online practices across the country for two days from today as part of the protest, the meeting sources said.

Meanwhile, the doctor and staffers of the NIMH staged a demonstration and observed work abstention on the same ground.

The also besieged the office of Prof Bidhan Ranjan Roy Podder, director of the hospital, pressing home their three-point demands including immediate release of Abdullah Al Mamun, registrar of the hospital.

The law enforcers yesterday arrested Mamun, who referred ASP Anisul to Mind Aid Psychiatry and De-Addiction Hospital from NIMH where he has reportedly been beaten to death.

Mamun is also a director of the private hospital, police said.
