All government and private offices and public transport across the country will remain suspended during the one-week lockdown to be enforced from April 14, Farhad Hossain, state minister for Public Administration, said on Friday.

Earlier in the day, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said that the government is mulling to go for announcing a countrywide all-out lockdown from April 14 to contain the surge of coronavirus.

“The government is thinking of imposing lockdown for more another week from April 14,” Quader said this while addressing a press conference virtually from his official residence on the Parliament Complex premises this noon.

Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, said the coronavirus infection took a horrifying turn while death and infection rates are increasing alarmingly.

Besides, people’s negligence and reluctance in obeying the government’s directives has increased significantly, he said.

“In this circumstance, the government is sincerely thinking of imposing lockdown for the sake of people’s interest,” he said.

“It does not seem to me that the ongoing one-week lockdown has brought any change in the mentality of people,” Quader expressed his disappointment during the press conference.

As the country has been experiencing record-breaking Covid cases for the past few days, the government went on a weeklong countrywide lockdown from last on Monday.
