The government is planning to put new restrictions after reimposing curbs on gatherings, traffic movement, and other restrictions amid the second wave of Covid-19.

“The fresh set of pandemic instructions might be imposed next Sunday to prevent coronavirus infection,” State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain told reporters at his office in Dhaka.

He made the remarks hours after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina warned of stricter measures in the future to protect the people from the pandemic on Thursday.

“We‘ve taken some immediate steps, but may need to take stricter measures in future to save people,” she said in a videoconference at the closing ceremony of the 71st Foundation Training Course of BCS officers.

“We’ve some different plans. The prime minister is thinking of new guidelines. However, the existing restrictions will continue,’ said the state minister.

The government imposed a week-long nationwide lockdown from April 4 in the wake of spike Covid-19 cases and deaths surged across the country.

On March 29, the government imposed restrictions, including a ban on all public gatherings in areas with a high rate of infections, limiting passengers in the public, and shutting down shopping malls.

However, the government decided to reopen the shops from Friday giving in protests staged by the shop owners, traders, and hawkers.
