PM asks to reduce tariff on four products including rice

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday gave directives to authorities concerned to reduce tariffs on four essential items- rice, edible oil, sugar and date.
She gave the directive in a cabinet meeting today at her office in the capital's Tejgaon, reports BSS.
Later, Cabinet Secretary Md Mahbub Hossain in a press conference disclosed the decisions taken in the meeting.
Ahead of the Holy month of Ramadan, the premier gave directives to the National Board of Revenue (NBR) to reduce tariffs on the four essential commodities, he said adding now the NBR will decide how much tariff will be reduced.
The Cabinet approved the draft of the Law and Order Disruption (Speedy Trial) (amendment) Act 2024.
Mahbub Hossain said the act was framed first in 2002 for two years. Later the tenure of the law was extended several times and the current tenure will expire on April 9 next.
The Cabinet has taken decision in principle to give the act a permanent shape, he said.
The draft of the National Primary Education Academy Act-2024 also got the cabinet’s nod.
