Dengue death toll crosses 700 as 15 more die in 24hrs

The health authorities recorded 15 more deaths from dengue and 1,876 new cases in the last 24 hours till Friday morning, according to the health department.

The total number of this year’s fatalities from dengue stood at 703 so far. Of the new deaths, 11 died in Dhaka and four outside it, according to a handout of the Directorate General of Health Service (DGHS).

During the period, some 8,42 more patients were hospitalised with the viral fever in the capital and 1,034 outside it. The total number of dengue cases reached 14,2,587 in 2023, said the DGHS.

A total of 9,730 dengue patients, including 2,465 in the capital, are now receiving treatment at different hospitals across the country.

The DGHS recorded 59,716 dengue cases and 50,225 recoveries in 2023.

The country also recorded 281 deaths from dengue in 2022 and 179 deaths in 2019.

The health department also recorded 62,423 dengue cases and 61,971 recoveries in the last year.
