End Ukraine war through negotiations: PM tells Russian foreign minister

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has once again urged Russia to find a path to stop the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine through a peaceful negotiation.

The premier came up with the call when Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov paid a courtesy call on Sheikh Hasina at her official residence Ganabhaban in Dhaka on Friday morning.

PM’s Deputy Press Secretary Hasan Jahid Tusher briefed reporters after the meeting.

Lavrov arrived in Dhaka on Thursday evening on a two-day visit, the first by a Russian foreign minister since Bangladesh's Independence in 1971.

This visit is considered an important development for Bangladesh amid the changed global political and economic situation following the Russian-Ukraine war and subsequent US sanctions on Moscow.

From Dhaka, Lavrov is flying to India to attend the G20 Summit to be held on September 9-10 in New Delhi.

PM Hasina will also join the summit as an invited guest of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
