Demolish illegal brickfields in 5 districts within 15 days: HC

The High Court (HC) on Tuesday ordered authorities concerned to demolish within 15 days all the illegal brick kilns in five districts including Dhaka.

A High Court division bench of Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam and Justice Md Iqbal Kabir passed the order after holding hearing on a writ filed in this regard, reports BSS.

“The court ordered deputy commissioners of Dhaka, Manikganj, Munshiganj, Gazipur and Narayanganj to demolish all the illegal brick kilns in their districts within 15 days,” senior advocate Manzil Morshed, who moved the plea before the court, told newsmen.

Deputy Attorney General Barrister Qazi Mainul Hasan stood for the state at the hearing.

Earlier the Department of Environment informed the court that they have conducted raids in eight out of 11 illegal brickfields in Manikganj, 16 out of 26 in Munshiganj, 25 out of 113 in Dhaka, and 33 out of 46 illegal brickfields in Gazipur.
