New CEC, four ECs sworn in

The newly appointed Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) former senior secretary Kazi Habibul Awal and four other Election Commissioners (EC) have taken their oaths.

Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique administered the oath-taking ceremony at the Supreme Court Judges Lounge at 4:30pm on Sunday.

Earlier on Saturday, the Cabinet Division published a gazette notification announcing the names of CEC and four ECs.

Former Senior Secretary Kazi Habibul Awal got the appointment as CEC.

The four appointed ECs are retired District and Session Judge Begum Rashida Sultana, retired Brig Gen Ahsan Habib Khan, retired Senior Secretary Md Alamgir and retired Senior Secretary Anisur Rahman.

They have been appointed by the President for a five-year tenure.

Earlier on February 22, the search committee finalized the name of 10 selected persons for the formation of the Election Commission.

The committee handed over the list of the selected persons to the President on February 24.
